This footage is by far one of my favorite songs and performances by Jimi.
It's a song that never gets any airplay but man, what a performance!
Of course you have to take into account what was happening historically when this
performance was filmed. There were riots across the country and the war in
Viet Nam was at it's deadliest peak. Which I'm sure struck a very notable cord
with Jimi who was at one time an Airborne Paratrooper I'm not sure of the unit
but I think he was in the 101st Airborne. I know from many books that I read that
the 101st was deployed in Nam at that time. I'm not sure when Jimi was in the service but I think
he was discharged before Viet Nam.
Guitarist, singer, and songwriter. Born Johnny Allen Hendrix (later changed to James Marshall) on November 27, 1942, in Seattle, Washington. Learning to play guitar as a teenager, Hendrix grew up to become a rock guitar legend. He began his career by playing in a number of bands in his youth. Hendrix later enlisted in the United States Army in 1961 and became as a paratrooper. Even as a soldier, Hendrix found time for music, creating a band named The King Casuals. He served in the army until 1965 when he was discharged because of an injury.
